What you are about to read is a true story and one that greatly rocked Japan.  Sada Abe was born in 1905 in Tokyo.  At the age of 15 she was raped by someone she knew and subsequently became a difficult teenager.  Not knowing what else to do with her, her father sold  her to a Yokohama geisha house.  Because she wasn’t trained from very early childhood to be a geisha she ended up a very low ranking geisha and her role was nothing more than to provide sexual services.   It was during her five years as a geisha that she contracted syphilis.   This meant she would have to undergo regular health exams much like the licensed prostitutes.  She decided to leave the world as a geisha and become a prostitute because it meant better pay.

She attempted to get out of prostitution and started working as a waitress.  The wages weren’t good so she soon started prostituting again, only this time she worked in an unlicensed brothel in Tokyo where she would be close to her ailing parents where she could help care for them.  The brothel was eventually raided and she was arrested.  A well connected friend of the brothel owner, Kinnosuke Kasahara,  got her out of prison and took her for his mistress providing her with a house and money.   The relationship went bad when he refused to leave his wife for her and wouldn’t allow her to take another lover.  She fled to Nagoya to escape Kasahra.  She attempted to leave the sex industry again, this time taking a job as a maid in a restaurant where she became romantically involved with one of the regular customers, Goro Omiya.  Knowing that the owners would never allow her to keep working there she left and returned to Tokyo with Omiya.

This is where the story becomes both fascinating and tragic.  This is also where Sada met Kichizo Ishida.  She had taken a job as a business apprentice at the Yoshidaya, a business owned by Kichizo and his wife.  He was a known womanizer who wasn’t interested in the day to day business of running the restaurant and left it in the capable hands of his wife.   Sada claimed that Goro never sexually satisfied her and she gave into the advances of Kichizo.  What was supposed to be a short fling ended up in a 15 day sex marathon that only stopped long enough for them to move from one love hotel or tea house to another.  They had sex while the geisha’s performed music and while maids came in and served Saki.  Sada was horribly jealous that Kichizo returned to his wife.  During the week that they were apart she had went to see a play where a geisha attacks her lover with a knife.  Sada had planed to threaten Kichizo with a knife the next time they met.  Despite being taken aback by her threats he was also turned on by it.  During sex she Sada started choking Kichizo, who told her to continue, that it just increased his pleasure.  They would continue to play around with erotic asphyxiation during orgasm.   Later, as he slept, she put her kimono sash around his neck and strangulated him.  After laying with his body for a couple hours she then carved off his penis and scrotum and took them with her when she left.  She was later arrested and served five years in prison.

In 1976 Nagisa Oshima put together the movie, In the Realm of the Senses, that told the story of Sada and Kichizo.  The movie was released to mainstream audiences despite 90% of it being unsimulated sexual content.  The actress who played Sada, Eiko Matsuda, never acted again because of the criticism and stigma that followed because she had engaged in sex on camera.

This is what makes Evil Angel’s movie Pure one of the most interesting movies I have watched to date across all genres, porn and mainstream.  It is basically an x-rated remake of a movie that was basically mainstream porn.   A story of sexual obsession lends itself very well to the arena of adult entertainment and I am actually surprised that prior to Pure that no one had made a movie about the incident.

Naturally, director David Aaron Clark took some liberties with the story and made Kichizo (Keni Styles) and his wife owners of a BDSM dungeon rather than a restaurant and Sada was hired as the phone girl who scheduled appointments.  The story was told through the testimony of Sada and interviews with others Sada had come in contact with.  Key dialog of the movie was taken directly from Sada’s testimony.

Asa Akira did a remarkable job playing Sada.  There was one particular scene after Kichizo was complaining they were broke that Sada met with an old client, played by Jake Malone,  to make some money.  She lied to him and told him she needed the money because she was broke after leaving a relationship.  Malone drugged her with LSD, decorated her body with shabari (Japanese rope bondage) and subjected her to some intense sexual debauchery that included erotic asphyxiation.   Malone not only choked her but would step on her throat.  I was amazed at how well Asa Akira was able to endure this, especially when bound.  In the behind the scenes interview with Asa she talked about how she is really into choking.  While watching the movie I wasn’t sure if she was really into this kind of thing and I was amazed at how well she took it all and made it look like pure enjoyment for the camera.   It was all really intense to watch and often made me cringe but at the same time Asa held me in awe through it all.

In Clark’s modernized, Americanized and updated rendition of the story, this was Sada’s introduction to erotic asphyxiation and upon returning to Kichizo she introduced it to him.  She also held a sushi knife to his penis and told him that she would insure that he would be with no other woman.

Pure is one of the most amazing films that I have ever watched from the BDSM scenes at the dungeon to the marathon sex between Sada and Kichizo.  Speaking of the marathon sex, it was pretty wild to watch because they wouldn’t even really stop to eat or drink, they just incorporated it into their sex play.  I can honestly say that this is the first time that I have seen chopsticks and sushi used in foreplay.  The chemistry between Keni and Asa really came across in the movie and helped give the relationship between Sada and Kichizo it’s intensity.

As the story of Sada and Kichizo came to an end with the severing of his penis I had to look away from the screen.  It all looked incredibly real.  The special effects were convincing and Asa is quite the talented actress.  You would never know by watching Pure that she had never starred in a feature movie before.

David Aaron Clark has created a movie that will be remembered for some time.  He has paid enough attention to detail including the dialog taken from Sada’s testimony that the story is 100% believable, even with liberties that he took with the story.  In the realm of Sada’s life, where she worked isn’t all that important and when it comes to porn a dungeon is much more impressive and lends more to sex scenes than a restaurant.  What is important is that Sada met Kichizo and the events that transpired afterward.  Until that point the details are not important.

I highly recommend Pure and just not for the sex but for a look into the biggest sex scandals to ever come out of Japan.

Adaora Allure: You have had your own blog for over a year. What do you like the most about blogging? What kind of fan response do you receive from it?
Annette Schwarz: I like blogging cause you can tell every of your thoughts out loud and not like in normal life that people sometimes ignore you. Here they are really interested in my thoughts and feelings. This makes me happy and I want to share even more private things! Also, it’s nice cause you get a bit stronger or maybe you had to rethink your opinion about some things because of some good arguments I get! Often it’s just good, to write your thoughts down. It really helps you to organize your brain.

Usually the response are really interesting and smart. Also charming or cute – sometimes. And often I get really cool ideas, that can be used in the upcoming movies. I love to tap the dirty ideas from my readers! So, perhaps we work together on a give-and-take basis.

AA: I read your recent blog post about German porn: the Scheisse stereotype, Simon Thaur’s awesome work and how boring a lot of the rest seems. After a few years in American productions, what do you like the most?

I do like on one side the European Porn where boys and girls are not like Paris Hilton wannabes or boys like Brad Pitt wannabes. Which is not by everyone in US Porn, but a lot of Americans don’t do porn like Europeans for reasons like, horniness, sluttiness, money and fun.

A lot of Americans want to be on Hollywood Parties, go to the Oscars, play in Mainstream Movies, have a little dog, and wear Juicy Couture Pyjamas.
The Porn is always depending on the actors which are in it, than I don’’t care where I am shooting! Sure, the US got more “no goes” like piss, scat or dominance stuff. But if the performers love their job and are into each other, it can be a fucking nasty hot scene!

AA: Who have been your favorite guys, girls and directors to work with so far? Are you planning to team up with Mason again?

Let me say for Mason I would probably always get soft again even if I am married, don’t doing Porn since 10 years or live as a nun in a church. If she wants me she can get me! Promised!

Wow, that’s a really nice compliment honestly. This is is something I haven’t been aware of before I met Mason. I know, it sounds strange, but when I was young in high school boys weren’t attracted to me at all, because of my look. I thought, this is happening because I am just a simple not exciting personality. Mason gave me so much during the time I spend with her on and off set and she definitely has a talent to bring everything out of you and discover yourself in new ways!
